Ulzeraide Plus | Horse Digestive Supplement for Stomach & Hindgut Support

Ulzeraide Plus is a premium daily horse digestive supplement formulated to protect the gastrointestinal tract from stomach to hindgut and manage the harmful effects of feed-borne mycotoxins.

This dual-action gut support formula aids horse owners managing equine gastric ulcer risks, hindgut acidosis, and pasture-driven digestive imbalances without altering natural stomach acid production.

Your horse’s gut health affects far more than digestion. Digestive imbalance can contribute to stomach and hindgut discomfort, increased ulcer risk, and changes in behaviour, comfort and performance.

If your horse suddenly feels tense, girthy, reactive or just “not quite themselves,” it may not be attitude.

It may be stomach discomfort.

As the seasons change and grass starts growing rapidly, sugar levels and plant compounds in pasture can disrupt your horse’s gut balance. This internal stress can affect the gastrointestinal system and digestive comfort, particularly during periods of travel, competition, stabling, seasonal pasture changes and other everyday challenges.

Ulzeraide Plus is formulated to support the gastrointestinal system from stomach to hindgut, helping maintain digestive comfort so touch becomes comfortable again, saddling isn’t a battle, and your horse can relax into their work.

Because gastric ulcers are more common than many horse owners realise.

Studies suggest that up to 50–60% of horses may experience gastric ulcers at some point in their lives—including pleasure horses.

Many horses show subtle signs long before the problem becomes obvious.

Is Your Horse Showing These Signs?

They may need daily digestive support.

🚨 Reacts to saddling or rug changes even when the fit is correct

🚨 Girthy or sensitive during grooming

🚨 Suddenly resistant to bending or going forward

🚨 Increased irritability, tension, bucking or spooking

🚨 Struggles to hold adjustments or feels sore after bodywork

🚨 Soreness through the withers, flank, lumbar region or last rib

🚨 Bloated appearance or signs of gut discomfort

🚨 Reduced appetite or walking away from meals

🚨 Unexplained weight loss or poor condition

🚨 Repeated mild colic episodes

These aren’t “just quirks.”

They’re often early signs of gastric or hindgut discomfort.

Preventative Care: Managing Equine Gastric Ulcer Risks Naturally

Supporting a horse prone to digestive issues requires a holistic approach. While active ulcers may require targeted veterinary care, a proactive management routine is key to maintaining long-term gastric comfort.

Using high-quality horse supplements helping prevent gastric ulcer recurrence works best when paired with these daily management strategies:
    • Provide Continuous Forage: Keep premium hay or pasture available continuously so your horse’s stomach is never left empty. Constant chewing stimulates saliva production, which acts as nature’s primary acid neutraliser.
    • Feed Alfalfa Prior to Exercise: Administering a small flake of alfalfa (lucerne) 20 to 30 minutes before working your horse creates a structural “forage mat” inside the stomach. This physical barrier stops corrosive stomach acid from splashing onto the sensitive upper squamous lining during movement.
    • Incorporate Daily Mycotoxin Management: “Utilizing a daily mycotoxin binder helps trap fed-borne toxins before they can compromise hindgut integrity and induce internal stress.”
    • Reduce High-Starch Grain Feeds: Replace large, starchy grain concentrates with highly digestible fiber sources to avoid souring the stomach environment and disrupting delicate hindgut bacteria.
    • Maximise Turnout and Companion Time: Minimise prolonged stall confinement by offering maximum turnout alongside compatible herd mates. Movement and social interaction lower cortisol levels, reducing stress-induced glandular ulcers.
    • Extend Grazing Time with Slow Feeders: When free-choice pasture must be restricted to prevent weight gain, utilize slow-feed hay nets. This extends physical chewing time, keeping the stomach content regulated without over-supplying calories.

By integrating Ulzeraide Plus into this daily preventative care framework, you give your horse the daily nutritional support they need to navigate travel, competition, and rapid seasonal grass changes comfortably.

How Ulzeraide Plus Supports Your Horse

Ulzeraide Plus may be used as a nutritional aid in the general maintenance of gastrointestinal health.
The formula features the synergy of prebiotics, probiotics, herbal extracts, and earth-based nutrients to soothe and protect your horse’s digestive system.
The formula is designed to:
    • Help support both foregut and hindgut balance
    • Help improve feed intake and fibre digestibility — which may contribute to more efficient feeding and reduced feed costs
    • Help horses cope with stress from travel, stabling, competitions and separation anxiety
    • Provide a mycotoxin binder to support horses exposed to pasture and feed challenges

By supporting gut health daily, Ulzeraide Plus helps create a more comfortable, resilient digestive system — because prevention is far easier than recovery. Fore best results during pasture growth, fed alongside Pazture Guarde.

Technical Ingredient Deep-Dives

🌾 Prebiotic Support & Fenugreek (Healthy Gut Microbes)

Ulzeraide Plus actively feeds your horse’s good bacteria! It contains prebiotic components, including Mannan Oligosaccharides (MOS) from yeast cell walls and fenugreek powder.
These powerful ingredients nourish beneficial gut bacteria, enhancing the effects of probiotics and creating a balanced, thriving gut ecosystem.
    • Boosts Beneficial Bacteria: Encourages growth of helpful microbes like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria, supporting digestion and gut stability.
    • Improves Nutrient Absorption: A healthier microbiome means your horse can extract more nutrients from feed, improving energy and overall condition.
    • Protects Gut Integrity: Supports the intestinal lining and reduces digestive disturbances, keeping your horse comfortable and performing at their best.
    • Natural Hindgut Slow-Fermentation: Fenugreek seeds are a rich source of galactomannan, a soluble fibre that acts as a natural prebiotic. This fibre resists digestion in the upper gut and slowly ferments in the horse’s hindgut, providing a steady food source for beneficial bacteria.

🛡️ Meriden Fusion® DYAD (Broad-Spectrum Mycotoxin Binder)

Ulzeraide Plus contains a professional-grade, registered mycotoxin binder designed to minimize the negative effects of feed mycotoxins.
Fusion® DYAD* binds to mycotoxins directly within the feed and digestive tract, preventing them from being absorbed into the animal’s bloodstream.
    • Broad-Spectrum Capture: Helps reduce the risk and impact of aflatoxins, fumonisins, lolitrem B, ergot alkaloids, and zearalenone.
    • Dual-Action Binding Mechanism: Pure bentonite and mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) work together to provide both physical and chemical binding of a range of toxins.
    • Ammonia-Binding Properties: Provides excellent ammonia-binding capabilities alongside selective mycotoxin mitigation while serving as an anti-caking agent.

🧫 LEVUCELL® SB & Levucell® SC (Live Yeast Probiotics)

Probiotics promote a thriving bacterial environment by increasing the populations of beneficial microorganisms in the gut.
  • LEVUCELL® SB (Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii): This specialized live yeast probiotic strain is naturally resistant to stomach acid, allowing it to survive transit through the upper gut alive. It helps consume oxygen within the digestive tract to favor beneficial bacteria while neutralizing microbial toxins like Clostridium difficile Toxin A and E. coli endotoxin. It helps support intestinal integrity by increasing crypt depth and villus height to maintain a healthy barrier.
  • LEVUCELL® SC (Saccharomyces cerevisiae): A live yeast probiotic targeted specifically at supporting a balanced hindgut environment. It helps stabilize hindgut pH and encourages the growth of vital fibre-digesting bacteria, making it exceptionally valuable for horses exposed to lush pastures, high-starch feeds, or athletic training stress.

⛰️ Sodium Humic Acid (Earth-Based Biology Boost)

This clean addition features sodium humic acids derived from ancient plant matter, perfect for maintaining cellular balance and optimum digestive health.
    • Flora Stabilization: Stabilizes the intestinal flora while improving protein digestion, calcium utilization, and trace element absorption.
    • Enhanced Feed Uptake: Works to increase the efficiency of all nutrition that enters your horse—including supplements, mineral licks, dry feed, and pasture—improving overall condition and local immunity.

🧬 L-Threonine (Essential Amino Acid & Gut Barrier Support)

L-Threonine is an essential amino acid, meaning it cannot be produced by the horse’s body and must be supplied through their daily diet. It plays a critical role in protein synthesis, tissue repair, and maintaining the structural health of the entire equine gastrointestinal tract.
    • Produces Mucin Shield: L-Threonine is a primary component needed to produce mucin—the slippery, protective mucus layer that sheets the stomach and intestinal lining.
    • Maintains Intestinal Integrity: By supporting a robust and healthy gut barrier wall, it prevents digestive disturbances and keeps the cellular tight junctions of the digestive tract secure.
    • Aids Stress Management: In Ulzeraide Plus, L-Threonine replaces Aloe Vera to deliver highly reliable, targeted support that helps maintain a strong gut barrier during periods of travel, training stress, and seasonal pasture changes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ulzeraide Plus

📋 FAQ 1
    • Question: Is Ulzeraide Plus an antacid buffer for horses?
    • Answer: No. Ulzeraide Plus is not an antacid buffer and does not alter or suppress natural stomach acid production. Instead, it provides comprehensive daily protective support for the entire gastrointestinal lining from stomach to hindgut, alongside a dedicated mycotoxin binder.

📋 FAQ 2
    • Question: Can Ulzeraide Plus be used for horses with gastric ulcer risks?
    • Answer: Yes. Ulzeraide Plus is formulated to maintain daily digestive comfort and support horses during periods of internal stress, seasonal pasture changes, travel, and competition, which are common contributors to equine gastric ulcer risks and hindgut discomfort.

📋 FAQ 3
    • Question: Does this horse supplement include a mycotoxin binder?
    • Answer: Yes. Ulzeraide Plus contains a dedicated mycotoxin binder designed to aid in the management and mitigation of the harmful effects caused by feed-borne and pasture-borne mycotoxins.

📋 FAQ 4
    • Question: Can Ulzeraide Plus be used at the same time as Omeprazole?
    • Answer: Yes. Ulzeraide Plus can be fed safely in conjunction with a course of veterinary-prescribed Omeprazole. While Omeprazole actively suppresses stomach acid production to allow acute ulcer lesions to heal, Ulzeraide Plus works alongside it by providing immediate protective support to the wider gastrointestinal lining and managing daily pasture-borne mycotoxins. Once your horse completes their veterinary pharmaceutical course, Ulzeraide Plus can continue to be fed daily as part of their long-term preventative care and nutritional maintenance routine.

Testimonials

Jenny Killick – November 2024 – Auckland

Luke
Luke recommends: Ulzeraide Plus.
I have an elderly gentleman, and he was really girthy and grumpy when changing his covers and grooming him until I started feeding him Ulzeraide plus what a difference, he was so much happier, and no more runny manure and that’s all we want, right.
Game changer!

Julia Houghton – July 2024

Just wanted to complete a testimonial for your amazing Ulzeraide Plus product as we have been using it for quite some time now and have found great results.
Ulzeraide Plus has given my sensitive kai – Lynx – huge amounts of relief.
Lynx is not only prone to the grass affected crazies, but has been of late, very grumpy and sensitive to touch. I have found with both his nature and our varied pasture, that a lot of common toxin binders just weren’t working for us, this product is honestly as good as we were hoping for!
Not only is Ulzeraide effective, palatable and good value, the customer service is fantastic and it is so great to be able to support a local NZ business.
I recommend to anyone who is thinking this product may be worth trying to give it a go and see the difference in the comfort of your horse after the 1st month.

Jessica Aislabie – July 2024

I’ve been using Power Star Nutrition products for about the past 3 years. I use their Essentials Formula 1 consistently, along with Ulzeraide and either Pazture Guarde or Pasture Mag during the spring and summer seasons.
The Essentials formula has given both of my horses soft, shiny coats with visible dapples, and promotes strong hoof growth. Additionally, the added zinc and copper help to keep mud fever away on my white legged horse.
Ulzeraide has been essential for managing my horse’s hindgut acidosis, effectively solidifying his poo and alleviating acidity. He’s noticeably happier and more comfortable since starting on it.
During periods of rapid grass growth, Pazture Guarde helps offset magnesium deficiencies, which can make my horses excitable, along with the sodium bicarb in it buffering the stomach acid, noticeably calms and focuses them.
Through trial and error, I’ve found magnesium aspartate to be the most effective form for my horse affected by lush grass.
These products have made a significant difference in the well-being and performance of my horses over the years.

Sophie and Chelly – March 2022

My pony Jinx had previously had stomach ulcers but even after treatment, he was still off and on being grumpy when touched and had a very tense choppy way of going especially his canter.

We started using Ulzeraide Plus to prevent the ulcers from coming back and it changed his whole way of going!

He’s now a very chilled-out pony who really covers the ground when moving.

He has always been a very successful show pony but since getting on top of the ulcers he can now put in a very good dressage test starting out at Level 2 this year with some scores in the 70s!

He can also score well in his canter work and has recently come home with lots of champion paced and mannered in the show ring something we never thought of would be possible before.

I’ve had amazing results with the Power Star Nutrition products and highly recommend them.

Sophie Alexander – Auckland – February 2020

If you are looking to try some new supplements for your horses look no further!

I have been using Power Star Nutrition, Ulzeraide Plus, and Pazture Mag and absolutely love them.

Ulzeraide Plus is amazing for keeping my boys’ tummies happy, during the season their bodies are put under stress and dietary changes, this can upset the gastrointestinal system and lead to ulcers.

Ulzeraide Plus supports the gastrointestinal system and prevents ulcers as well as contains a mycotoxin binder to manage the negative effects of feed-borne mycotoxins.

Pazture Mag contains magnesium and thiamine (B1) which replace what is lacking in the grass, this allows my horses to feel relaxed and focused for both at-home training and competition.

The Power Star Nutrition products are all produced within the FEI swabbing regulations and are of the highest quality. Thank you, Sophie Alexander.

Kiri Parrish – November 2022

Ivy is an 8-year-old mare. On arrival, she was spooky and highly strung. She was touchy to brush.

After feeding a combination of Ulzeraide Plus and Pazture Guarde she is happy to be groomed.

This has helped her cope with grass changes and settle her down, reducing the spookiness.

Chaste Berry has also helped, barely noticing her in season since. I highly recommend the products.

Alice Cochran – Auckland – March 2020

My 15-year-old mare Jazz has been using Power Star Nutrition supplements for 4 years now.

In 2016 I contacted Rachel for nutritional advice and started Jazz on Pazture Mag and Ulzeraide Plus.

It literally worked on her within 3 days of feeding. Her temperament changed dramatically and was a pleasure to ride. She went from spooking at her shadow to relaxed and rideable.

I then added ‘Eaze Up’ for her joints as she was always a bit stiff starting out on a ride. This too has had an amazing effect on her.

She feels so much softer throughout her body! And is much happier in her work. Yay!

I also started my mare Jay on the supplements. Jay’s coat is amazing! She won best Rheinland Mare last week on the Hanoverian tour!

The judges were all very impressed with her shiny coat and dapples. The girls have been so happy and relaxed the past month.

Becky Watson – Auckland – July 2016

Luca has always been a horse who struggles in winter and is a typical thoroughbred.

He is stressy, has separation anxiety, and can’t stand still when tied up.

His weight was dropping quite substantially a couple of weeks before my investigation into supplements that would help, despite increasing his feed.

I contacted Rachel 5 weeks ago after hearing recommendations about her product Ulzeraide.

Upon more research and a chat with Rachel, it seemed to me a better alternative to one of the popular products on the market.

Ulzeraide is affordable to feed so I started feeding him. I did not change his feed during the five weeks however he was in light work for the first two weeks but then had three weeks off while I was overseas.

He was on a scoop of Ulzeraide every second day, (this is below recommended daily dose) and a teaspoon of Pazture Mag.

He gets a sweet feed type mix with Lucerne chaff and a scoop of equilibrium.

I returned from my holiday after 5 weeks of Luca being on the products.

He was looking a lot better condition-wise and more importantly happier and stress-free.

He stood for the first time ever calmly!! He seemed a lot more relaxed in the eye and the face.

We went for a hack up the road with his mates, and he was such a gentleman, not putting a foot wrong or spooking at anything.

He was not titchy or uptight, it was like he was a different horse!! This was, after three weeks off, and I was expecting a rocket. Especially as this horse generally needs a lunge before a ride with even just a week off!!

I highly recommend Ulzeraide to anybody who is struggling with similar symptoms to me – I’ve never been one to go crazy with the supplements, but I’m sold on Ulzeraide.

We have a team of warmblood show jumpers that this product works wonders on - no more spooking, an irrational behaviour, grass issues you name it Ulzeraide manages it. Even stress and anxiety. Have also found it work well on our racehorse, on a hard grain feed it keeps her ulcer free with a very happy tummy. Well worth giving a go, won’t touch any other “toxin binder”/“gastric conditioner” now.

Absolutely love this stuff!!! Have had issues in the past with my horses way of moving to the right, he was always really off especially trotting and cantering the way he moved was so strange and out of whack. I never new it was a sign of hindgut issues. Put him on ulzeraide and I tell you what.... absolutely AMAZING!!! The freedom of movement he got was so good!! Like a different horse!! Really works well for him and I recommend it to EVERYONE!!

Started this product after treating for Ulcers and have been very happy with the results. Ran out for a few days and horse was noticeably less happy. Can tell this product is working from the inside out as well due to lovey shine on the coat and healthy skin and feet.

We've had problems with horses here in Helensville in the past. I've had our good horse on Uzeraide all winter this year and this has been her best winter yet. She's been getting just half a scoop morning & night and she's had no gut problems. We will be doing the same again next winter. Fully reccommend as a preventer for ulcers & post rain sore gut due to short toxic grass.

Ulzeraide is a fantastic product for supporting gut health, preventing ulcers, and providing a toxin binder. I find it really great for my horses as we are constantly on the road during the season which takes a toll on their gut. This is a great product for ensuring your horse is happy inside and out
